This years theme for Older Americans Month has been "Making your Mark." So many of our older Americans make their mark each and every day. There mark can often be found in the lives they have touched and the minds they have shaped. I hope that each of us have taken a moment to reflect on the elderly members in our lives this month and pondered how they have made their mark on our lives.
Create a memory book
If an elderly person in your life has made a mark on you, I challenge you to create a memory book. It doesn't have to be big or ornate. It could even be a spiral bound notebook. No matter the medium you use, take some time to reflect and record how this generation has made their mark on your life.
This miniature history will allow the person that you love to continue to "make their mark" on future generations. It will also shape your life to discover ways that as you age you can leave your mark on those around you as well.
Get out and Make your Mark
Making a mark is truly a legacy that we can all aspire to. For those who have elderly parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents, now is the time to share with them how they shaped your life. Help keep their spirits in good condition by helping them discover how they have affected you. Your relationships will grow closer as you help them continue to Make their Mark in your life and the lives of those around them.
