A Big Thank You To ALL Social Workers!
March is the national month to honor social workers in and around the community. Social workers have such an integral part in so many different aspects of our lives. Aging Solutions wanted to take a moment to thank each and every person who provides social work care around the world. We also wanted to take a moment and hear from some of the amazing geriatric care managers at Aging Solutions.
A word from our Geriatric Care Managers about social work
We thought it would be nice to hear from some of our social workers, also known as Geriatric Care Managers, about why social work is important to them.
From Andrew Poll, MSW:
I just want to take the time to think all the social workers in our community for this month my name is Andrew and I am a licensed clinical social worker and geriatric care manager for aging solutions. I am a social worker because I value equality, and a strong community especially for our seniors. Our seniors are often overlooked for proper resources and I love trying to find solutions as a social worker to help them with all the adversities they face. As we work with them we see one of our major catalyst of grief being loss of independence. Working with families, the community, and individuals gives us great reward in finding solutions and their lives to maintain as much quality of life as possible. Happy social work month to everyone who helps and goes above and beyond to find solutions for those in need.
From Judy Arruda, ARNP:
I would like to say Thank You to all the Social Workers and Social Work Care Managers. I have had many years working with social workers and social work care managers in all avenues and clinical environments. They are so appreciated and are an important part of the team. I rely on the social workers and social work care managers to provide their detailed assessment findings, recommendations, solutions, information and direct me in the most important referrals so the patients can have Quality of Care from a team management perspective. Social Workers and Social work Care Managers thank you again, you are my extension of providing great care as well as providing important information.
From Shanna, MSW
Social work is a rewarding profession that allows me to make a difference in people’s lives. In part, social work chose me because of my unique skill-set of intelligence, emotional strength and empathy. I chose social work because people matter. No two clients are the same. Being a social work care manager gives me the opportunity to help people from all walks of life in a variety of settings. It is a humbling experience to walk alongside someone during the most vulnerable time of their life
I feel that I am passionate about helping aging and/or disabled individuals, couples, families and other professionals make best decisions by providing solutions, advocacy, guidance and support that all improve quality of life. I love to see the smiles and expressions of relief on faces once they realize I am here for them, to help them and their unique situation
What is a Geriatric Care Manager?
I know that some of your are wondering what a Geriatric Care Manager is. To quote the National Institute of Aging:
A geriatric care manager, usually a licensed nurse or social worker who specializes in geriatrics, is a sort of "professional relative" who can help you and your family to identify needs and find ways to meet your needs.
These specially trained professionals can help find resources to make your daily life easier. They will work with you to form a long-term care plan and find the services you need.
Geriatric care managers can be especially helpful when family members live far apart. If asked, they will check in with you from time to time to make sure your needs haven't changed.
No matter what kind of social work you are involved with, we wanted to say THANK YOU! If your life has been affected by a social worker, we would love to hear from you. We feel that we benefit from hearing how others around us are making a difference in people's lives.
